Audits Happen. Are You Prepared?

Matt Boll

When we talk about MyTimeStudy, we often refer to it as “effortless compliance for monthly CMS time studies.” But of course, time studies live well beyond the one month of data they represent or the one reimbursement check you expect to receive from CMS.

Specifically, they live for at least seven years beyond that.

Sooner or later, CMS will come knocking on your door and, yes, they will expect to see multiple years of data. So, you need to ask yourself, are you ready to stand behind the time studies that were created seven years ago? Time studies that may well have been created before you were even involved in the process, and that were almost certainly filled out by physicians and other staff that are no longer serve those roles? Because the one thing you can know for certain about a CMS audit is that “I wasn’t here then” is not going to get you off the hook.

Gain Compliance Confidence, Gain Peace of Mind

Imagine the panic when a CMS auditor comes to you and says, “I’d like to see your time studies from 2016.” Hopefully, you’ll at least be able to track down that data (if not, you really do have reason to panic). But when you look at those studies, will you even know what they say? Is something funky going on? Chances are, you’ll have no idea.

On the other hand, if you’re using MyTimeStudy and are audited, you can quickly and easily pull up past records and clearly see what was going on at any given point in time.

Like Buying Insurance Without Having to Buy Insurance

Having peace of mind for the future is great. So great, in fact, that people often buy insurance that serves that exact purpose: If something bad happens (and I think we can all agree that, from the hospital’s viewpoint, audits are very not good), you’re covered. But unlike insurance, you don’t pay extra for this coverage from MyTimeStudy; it is built into the system. You essentially get audit insurance for free by logging and tracking time studies in a way that will not only hold up to scrutiny but will be clear and easy to understand no matter who is looking at the data or when.

Now that is some serious peace of mind.
